Setting Your SMS Short Name (and What It Actually Controls)
It's easy to assume SMS short name changes what shows in a phone's "From" field for a text message, the way a bank's SMS sender ID does. It doesn't — Fees101's actual carrier-level sender ID is fixed and the same for every school. This field controls something more specific.
What it actually controls
Every outbound SMS Fees101 sends on your behalf — an invoice alert, a reminder, a receipt — opens with your school's name as a prefix inside the message text itself, like "Greenfield Academy: John's Term 2 fees are...". SMS short name is what fills that prefix. It does NOT change the telecom-level sender ID the message arrives under — that's fixed and identical across every school on Fees101.
Setting it
Go to School → Profile.
Find the SMS short name field, near the school name.
Enter a name up to 30 characters.
Save.
If you leave it blank
Fees101 falls back to your full school name automatically: if it's 20 characters or fewer, the full name is used as-is in that prefix. If it's longer than 20 characters, Fees101 abbreviates it to initials instead — skipping small connecting words like "and," "of," "the," "for," and "&" — so "Creative Kids Elementary and High School" becomes "CKEHS" rather than being cut off mid-word.
