Logging In, Logging Out, and Resetting Your Own Password
This is the self-service flow — what you do yourself when you can't remember your own password. If you need to reset someone ELSE's password, that's a different, admin-initiated action — see Resetting a Staff Member's Password.
Signing in
Go to the sign-in page and enter the email your school invited you with, and your password.
Choose Sign in.
There's no self-signup — an account only exists because your school's owner or a teammate with Manage Team added you (see Adding Staff and Changing Their Role). If you don't have an account yet, ask them, not this page.
Resetting your own forgotten password
From the sign-in page, choose "Forgotten password."
Enter your email and choose Send reset link.
Check your inbox for the reset email and follow the link.
Set a new password — at least 10 characters — and you're signed in automatically.
The reset link works once and expires after seven days. If it's already been used, or has expired, following it again lands on an "expired link" screen rather than silently failing — from there you can either sign in (if you already set a password from an earlier attempt) or request a fresh link.
Being locked out after too many wrong attempts
Five wrong passwords on the same account within 15 minutes locks that account out — you'll see a message telling you how many minutes until it unlocks. A single correct sign-in anywhere in that window clears the count entirely, so a few genuine typos in a row won't lock you out as long as you eventually get it right.
The moment an account hits the fifth failed attempt in the window, Fees101 emails the school owner to flag it — so a real break-in attempt doesn't go unnoticed just because the attacker never got in.
Signing out
Signing out ends your session immediately, but it does NOT cancel anything already running in the background — if a bulk invoice send was still going out to parents when you signed out, it keeps sending server-side. You'll see a one-time notice on the sign-in screen naming how many invoices were still in flight, purely informational.
A session also signs itself out automatically after 8 hours of inactivity, with the same in-flight-job notice if something was still running at that moment.
What can bounce you back to the sign-in screen
- Your access was removed — someone with Manage Team deactivated your account. You'll see who did it and when, if that information is available, with a link to contact your school's office.
- Your school's account is scheduled for deletion — the owner started closing it (see Exporting Your Data and Privacy Settings). Everyone except the owner is signed out and told the school is closing; the owner themselves sees a working "cancel the deletion" button right on this screen instead.
- Your school's platform billing has lapsed into suspension for non-payment — a different situation from both of the above. See Account Suspension for Non-Payment (Platform Billing).
