The Ways a Parent Can Pay (Transfer, Terminal, or Manual Entry)

Fees101 supports a few different paths for a payment to actually land against a student's invoice. Knowing which is which helps you point a parent to the right one, or recognize where a payment is likely to be stuck if it hasn't shown up yet.

Dedicated virtual account (DVA) transfer

Every student (or every family, if family-level accounts are turned on) gets their own dedicated virtual bank account from your connected provider — Paystack or Monnify. A parent transfers directly into that specific account number, and a webhook from the provider tells Fees101 the instant it settles, matching it to the right invoice automatically. This is the default, hands-off path, and the one most parents use day to day. For a family with a shared account, see How a Family Payment Covers Multiple Children's Fees for exactly how one transfer gets divided.

Card terminal (in person)

If you have a registered Paystack Terminal, a parent can pay by card, USSD, or transfer in person at your office. The charge starts from the student's invoice in Fees101, the amount is confirmed on the physical device, and the payment is recorded automatically once it goes through — see Taking a Payment on a Terminal.

Manual entry

For cash, or a POS machine other than your Paystack terminal, a staff member records it directly under Money → Manual Payments. This path exists specifically for money that moved outside Paystack/Monnify and therefore can't be verified by a webhook — see Recording Manual Payments for the approval rules that come with it.

What a direct-debit mandate is NOT for

Fees101's direct-debit mandate (set up during platform billing) is for Fees101's OWN subscription fee charged to your school — it is not a parent-facing way to collect school fees. Don't confuse it with the DVA transfer path above.
