How a Family Payment Covers Multiple Children's Fees

This only applies to families with a shared family-level virtual account turned on (see Linking Siblings to a Family Account for that toggle). With it on, a parent doesn't need to transfer separately to each child — one payment into the family's account is enough.

How one transfer is divided

When a payment lands in a family's shared account, Fees101 looks at every active sibling in that family together, not just one child. It builds one combined list of every open invoice across all of them and pays them off oldest-first — so a single transfer large enough to cover more than one child's fees will clear the oldest outstanding invoice first, then move to the next, and so on, until the money runs out or every open invoice across the family is paid.

This is automatic — no staff action needed for the split itself. It's the same webhook-driven matching that handles a single-student DVA, just applied across every sibling in the family at once instead of one student alone.

What happens to money left over

If the transfer is larger than every open invoice across the whole family combined, the remainder becomes credit balance rather than being left unapplied. See How Credit Balance Works for how that credit behaves afterward — it sits with whichever sibling absorbed it last, and moving it to a different sibling's invoice is a separate, manual step from there.

What this doesn't give you yet

There's no single combined statement or ledger page showing a family's payments across all their children in one place today — payment history is still viewed per student. If a parent asks for a combined receipt or statement, that's a manual pull across each child's record for now.
